The development of BIMpro

An Autodesk case study revelead that 90% percent of respondents mentioned that they are hiring unskilled workforces and are willing to train them. This is why we are even more encouraged in our approach to develop our software solutions user-oriented from the beginning and to bring them to the market with the highest user experience and usability.

Various users already confirm the ease of use of our software solutions. Therefore, also with BIMpro one of the main focuses is to guarantee a fast onboarding of new or unskilled employees, because this is directly related to efficiency and the security of a seamless and advanced collaboration between architect, engineer and precast plant.

How did the development proceed?

We at Progress Software Development have been dedicated to developing the groundbreaking software solution, BIMpro, since the beginning of 2021. Collaborating closely with our in-house precast concrete division, Progress AG, we identified the most complex steps in the design phase. Key areas of focus were the reinforcement generation for different precast concrete element types and the data export process. Together, we laid the groundwork for BIMpro and introduced its initial functionalities.

The partnership with Autodesk

BIMpro's integration with Revit, Autodesk CAD software, strengthened by the strategic partnership between Progress Software Development and Autodesk, allowed for the seamless development of the software solution. The Model2Fabrication feature, already integrated into BIMpro, enabled the rapid export of PXML data from the Revit Model. The integrated PTS-Check ensured producibility before exporting the data, eliminating the need for extensive manual effort during production. Furthermore, BIMpro introduced a one-click automatic reinforcement generation for example, addressing the specific needs of the precast concrete industry.

Collaboration with Architect and Structural Engineer

In 2023, Progress Software Development expanded their team, incorporating local architects Dear Studio and structural engineers Gamper-Unterweger. This collaboration empowered the further development of BIMpro, aiming to create the ultimate plugin for Revit tailored to the precast concrete industry. The architects created the 3D design model, which was then refined by structural engineers using BIMpro for automatic reinforcement generation. The model was thoroughly checked and approved before being sent to production.

Benefits of BIMpro

BIMpro provides numerous benefits to precasters, including improved safety, advanced collaboration, faster workflows, and ease of use. By utilizing BIMpro's functionalities, precast plants can achieve up to 50% time savings, ensure higher quality with fewer errors, and expedite production planning.

The efficient coordination and communication between architects, engineers, and precast plants, along with the exchange of information and defining parameters, were essential factors that contributed to the successful implementation of BIMpro. This collaborative approach ensured the efficient integration of BIM-technology into the precast concrete workflow, resulting in enhanced productivity and accuracy throughout the design and fabrication processes.
